Many people that I have spoken with regarding applying for Social Security disability (SSD) believe that they need their doctor to “put them on disability” before officially starting their case with the Social Security Administration. That is not the case!
Consider the legal standard for being awarded SSD.
In a nutshell, you must be able to prove that, for at least one [1] year or more, you are unable to work any full-time jobs that could be available. You are in the best position to make this determination – not your doctor.
For this reason, I believe that the starting point for any case is whether you – the client – believes that they meet that criteria. Furthermore, Social Security disability law is a unique combination of medicine and law, so your doctor is not well-positioned to fully advise you on your SSD matter.
I advise and assist people with SSD cases every day. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance.
